How long is the flight from the UK to India?
A non-stop flight from London to Delhi takes about 8 hours 40 minutes to 10 hours, and London to Mumbai about 9 to 10 hours. Flights back to the UK usually take an hour or two longer. With one stop in the Gulf or Istanbul, the whole journey usually takes about 12 to 16 hours, depending on the connection. India is 5 hours 30 minutes ahead of the UK in winter and 4 hours 30 minutes ahead during British Summer Time.
Which airlines fly from the UK to India?
Air India, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic fly non-stop from the UK to India. We also compare one-stop fares with airlines such as Emirates, Qatar Airways, Etihad, Gulf Air, Oman Air and Turkish Airlines, which are sometimes cheaper and reach more Indian cities. Your consultant will show you the best options for your dates and budget.
When is the cheapest time to fly to India?
Fares are usually lowest in January (after the first week), February and June. They are highest in December, in the UK school summer holidays and around Diwali, which falls on 8 November in 2026 and 29 October in 2027. If you need to travel at these times, book 3 to 4 months ahead.
What is the baggage allowance on flights to India?
It depends on the airline and the fare. On Air India, the Economy Value fare includes one 23kg bag and the Classic and Flex fares include two. British Airways’ Economy Standard fare includes one 23kg bag, while Basic is hand baggage only. Virgin Atlantic’s Economy Classic and Delight fares include two 23kg bags on flights to India, but Economy Light has no checked bag. Gulf airlines such as Qatar Airways and Etihad give a weight allowance that depends on the fare. Your consultant confirms the exact allowance before you pay, and it’s shown on your e-ticket.
Do I need a visa to travel to India from the UK?
Yes. British passport holders need a visa to visit India, unless they hold an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card. You may be able to apply online for an e-Visa, but check its rules on which airports you can arrive at. Foreign nationals must also fill in India’s online e-Arrival card, up to 72 hours before landing, and this is not a visa. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after you arrive and have 2 blank pages. Rules can change, so check GOV.UK foreign travel advice before you book.
Which UK and India airports can I fly between?
We book flights from London Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham and other UK airports to cities all over India. Direct flights include Heathrow to Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai, and Gatwick to Ahmedabad. For Goa, Kochi, Kolkata and many other cities, we find you the best one-stop connection. Air India is ending its Birmingham to Delhi and Gatwick to Amritsar flights this winter, and its Birmingham to Amritsar flights may also pause, so we always check what’s flying on your dates.
