FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about flying Kenya Airways from the UK: airports, baggage, seats, visas and the latest flight status.

Still have a question?

Talk to our Kenya Airways and Africa flight specialists. We'll answer it and check fares for your dates.

Which UK airports does Kenya Airways fly from?

Kenya Airways flies non-stop to Nairobi every day from London Heathrow Terminal 4, and several times a week from London Gatwick South Terminal (three times a week in winter 2026/27). All UK flights land at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO), Kenya Airways' hub in Nairobi, where you can connect to the rest of its network.

How long is the flight from London to Nairobi?

The non-stop flight takes about 8 hours 35 minutes to 9 hours, depending on the airport and the season. Kenya is 3 hours ahead of the UK in winter and 2 hours ahead during British Summer Time.

What is the Kenya Airways baggage allowance?

On flights between the UK and Kenya, Economy includes two 23kg checked bags and Business Class includes two 32kg bags. In Economy you can also take one cabin bag of up to 55 x 35 x 25 cm plus a small personal item, with a total of 12kg on UK flights. Business Class allows two cabin bags, 18kg in total. Allowances can change with the aircraft, so we confirm yours before you pay.

Can I choose my seat on Kenya Airways?

Yes, but choosing a seat in advance costs extra on most Economy fares. You can pay for an Extra Legroom seat, available on every Kenya Airways plane, or a Preferred seat near the front so you can get off quickly. Children can't sit in Extra Legroom seats. A passenger travelling with an infant, plus one companion on the same booking, doesn't pay for regular seats, and bassinets can be requested free of charge.

Do I need a visa for Kenya?

British citizens need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to visit Kenya, which you apply for online, ideally at least 2 weeks before you travel. Since October 2026, most visitors must also buy Kenyan government travel health insurance as part of the ETA application. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after you arrive and have 2 blank pages. If you're only changing planes in Nairobi and stay in the international transit area, you don't need an ETA.

Where can I fly on to from Nairobi?

Nairobi is Kenya Airways' hub. From the UK you can change planes there on one ticket for Mombasa and Kisumu in Kenya, or for Zanzibar, the Seychelles, Victoria Falls, Entebbe, Harare, Johannesburg and more. Some routes only fly a few times a week, so we find the best connection for your dates.

Is Kenya Airways part of SkyTeam?

Yes. Kenya Airways has been a full member of the SkyTeam alliance since June 2010, alongside airlines such as Air France and KLM. Its frequent flyer programme is Asante Rewards, which it launched in June 2023 after leaving Flying Blue.

Is Kenya Airways flying normally right now?

Yes, Kenya Airways' London flights are running as normal. A three-day aviation workers' strike disrupted flights at Kenyan airports from 30 August 2026, but it was called off on 1 September and Kenya Airways restored its full schedule. Kenya has also brought in extra Ebola health screening for some travellers, especially those arriving from Uganda, Ethiopia and the DR Congo. In its October 2026 advice, the FCDO does not advise against travel to Nairobi, Mombasa, Diani or the Masai Mara, but it does advise against travel to areas near the Somali border and parts of Lamu, Garissa and Tana River counties. We check the latest status before you book and again before you fly.
