Which UK airports does American Airlines fly from?

American flies non-stop from London Heathrow to New York JFK, Boston, Philadelphia, Charlotte, Raleigh-Durham, Miami, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Phoenix and Los Angeles. It also flies from Edinburgh to New York and Philadelphia, with schedules that vary by season. It no longer flies from Manchester. Its Heathrow flights can use more than one terminal, so we confirm yours when you book.

How long is the flight from London to the US with American?

Non-stop flights from London Heathrow take about 8 hours to New York, Boston or Philadelphia, 9 hours to Chicago, Charlotte or Raleigh-Durham, 10 hours to Miami, 10.5 hours to Dallas/Fort Worth and 11 hours to Phoenix or Los Angeles. Flights back to London are usually shorter.

What is the American Airlines baggage allowance from the UK?

Every fare includes a carry-on bag and a personal item. On flights between the UK and the US, Basic Economy has no free checked bag and Main Cabin includes one 23kg bag. Premium Economy includes two 23kg bags, Business two 32kg bags and Flagship First three. Each bag can measure up to 158cm in total, and we can add extra bags to your quote.

Can I choose my seat for free on American Airlines?

With a Main Cabin ticket, you can choose a standard seat for free when you book. Preferred seats and Main Cabin Extra seats, with more legroom near the front, cost extra. With Basic Economy, you're given a seat for free at check-in, or you can pay to choose one earlier. For families with children under 15, American looks for seats together and seats children next to at least one adult.

Is American Airlines part of oneworld?

Yes. American is a founding member of oneworld and works closely with British Airways, so you can mix flights with both airlines on one trip. You collect AAdvantage miles on Main Cabin and higher fares, but Basic Economy tickets bought since 17 December 2025 don't earn miles.

Can I connect to other US cities with American?

Yes. American's hubs at Dallas/Fort Worth, Charlotte, Chicago, Miami, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Los Angeles and New York connect you to hundreds of cities on one ticket. At your first US airport, you go through immigration and customs and collect your bags, then drop them again for your next flight. Bags are only checked through if all your flights are on one booking.

What do you get in American Airlines Flagship Business?

Flagship Business is American's business class on long-haul flights. You get a lie-flat seat, two 32kg checked bags, and priority check-in, security and boarding. On flights between the US and Europe, it also gives you access to Flagship lounges and Admirals Club lounges.

Do I need an ESTA to fly to the US?

Yes. British citizens visiting the US for a holiday or to see family, for up to 90 days, need an approved ESTA or a US visa before they fly. Apply on the official ESTA website. If your current ESTA doesn't include the selfie photograph US Customs and Border Protection now requires, you may need to apply again, so check your account before you travel.
